ELA 8c Week 9/12

All students are currently learning how to diagram sentences. This method is helping when trying to recognize and structure word parts within a sentence

All narrative drafts are due this week. Next week., we will start revising and editing.

Students should still focus on reading there I.R Book as well. Conferences will be held next week regarding the memoir or realistic fiction book they chose.

ELA update-week of 9/5/2016

All students are in the process of developing their personal narratives.

Students should be creating an organizer for their narratives along with answering the following questions:

1. What is it about this experience that makes it memorable?
2. What specific lessons did you learn from having this experience?
3. What have you learned about yourself as a result of this experience?
4. How did this experience change you and your life?
5. How might this experience influence you in the future?
6. What might someone learn by reading about your experience?

We are also discussing character development.

Note: The last day to complete the NoRedInk homework (parts of speech and sentence structure) for credit will be Friday, September 9th. It was assigned August 31st.

Attention everyone:

The last day that I will accept the All About Me Project without a late penalty is this Wednesday, August 31st. Thank you to everyone who emailed your projects to me at: swoodar6@pinoak.us.

The original instructions state that it should be shared via google docs; however, Word Art is not supported. I am asking that all projects be submitted by email to my gmail account. swoodar6@pinoak.us

Note to Parents: Your child is setting up a google email (gmail) account specifically for my class. all students will use this tool to create and submit assignments to me. There is a half sheet green form that is coming home to you that requires your signature regarding the gmail account. I need this form back by this Friday, August 26, 2016. Welcome to 8th grade ELA

It is such a pleasure to have you in my class for the 2016-2017 school year! You will learn from me, and I will definitely learn from you. This site will mainly be used for weekly updates and upcoming tests and projects. Please refer to the student agenda for specific classroom and homework assignments.

This week in ELA:

• What is the importance of Reading in your life?
• What resources will I find in this classroom? What minds and experiences will I be in class with?
• What is the importance of reading in a person’s life?
• What is your individual story?
• Students will become familiar with all policies and procedures

*Special note- the bottom section of the Course syllabus must be signed and returned by Friday, August 26th.
